Residing in Sri Lanka implies having to cope with monsoon, hot weather and shifting seasons. Your immune system works daily to ensure that you are healthy. The good news? Simple habits that you can easily incorporate into your daily routine can make it stronger.

We’ll look at seven common methods of improving your immunity naturally.

How Sri Lankan Women Over 30 Can Beat Belly Fat After Avurudu Feasts

1.Exercise: Walk, Ride, Run, 30 Minutes a Day

Workout is a warm-up for your immune system. Your body forms additional white blood cells when you are on the move. These cells combat germs and make you healthy.

There is no need to go to an expensive gym. Try these:

  • A stroll in your local community.
  • A bicycle ride to the market.
  • Dancing to your favorite Sinhalese or Tamil songs.
  • Playing cricket or Elle with friends.Swimming at the beach.

Important tip: Don’t overdo it. Too much vigorous exercise can make you weak in immunity. Exercise moderately on the majority of days.

2. Sleep Like You Health Depends on It (Because It Does)

When you sleep, your body is actually in the process of repairing, actually, in the form of immune cells. Adults need 7-8 hours each night. More than this, approximately 8-10 hours are needed by the teens.

You are three times more likely to get a cold when you do not get enough sleep. Sleep is a phenomenon which we sacrifice either with work or browsing the social network. This is a mistake.

Better sleep habits:

  • Go to bed at the same time on a daily basis.
  • Keep your room cool and dark.
  • Switch off your phone 30 minutes before sleep.
  • Be careful not to eat heavy food at night.

3.(Sri Lankan Style) Eat the Rainbow

Grandmother proved to be right when it comes to eating vegetables. Colorful fruits and vegetables are exotic, full of vitamins and minerals thereby boosting your immunity.

Local superfoods to include:

  • Gotukola: This is a leafy green and it is rich in nutrition.
  • Turmeric: It is also a spice that you can add to your curry and rice as an anti-inflammatory.
  • King coconut water: Natural electrolyte-hydration.
  • Papaya: Rich in vitamin C
  • Mango: Vitamin C powerhouse
  • Jak fruit: A nutritionally good source of fiber.

Eat 5 or more portions of vegetables and fruits per day. Combine the various colours to achieve various nutrients.

4.Be able to cope with stress and do not allow stress to take control of you

Stress is a killer of immunity. During times that you are stressed, cortisol is secreted in your body. Excess cortisol leads to a poor immune system.

By 2026, we will stress when: we are in a traffic jam, we are on social media and in our regular lives. You need healthy ways to cope.

Stress-busting techniques:

  • Meditate or mindfulness (10 minutes a day).
  • Attempt breathing exercises.
  • Spend time in nature.
  • Talk to friends and family.
  • Get screen-free and recline on your phone.

A five-minute break or a mere rest will make you forget about stress.

5.Keep Yourself Hydrated throughout the day

There are many ways in which water benefits your body. It transports nutrients to cells, eliminates toxins, and maintains your own immune system in perfect operation.

In the tropical climate in Sri Lanka, water is lost in the form of sweat. The fact is that many individuals are walking about in a state of dehydration unaware of it.

Hydration goals:

  • Take in 8 glasses of water per day.
  • Increase intake of drinks when exercising or working outdoors.
  • King coconut water is superb in terms of hydration.
  • Herbal teas can be considered as a fluid intake.
  • Restrict alcohol and soft drinks.

Psychological evaluation: Urine is supposed to be light yellow. Dark urine is a sign of increased water requirement.

6.Second Immune System: Build a Healthy Gut

About 70 percent of your immunity is present in your gut. Due to a healthy gut, immunity is high.

Probiotics can be found in fermented foods. The beneficial microbes keep your bowels healthy.

Gut-friendly foods:

  • Curd (yogurt): This is a Sri Lankan food, which is high in probiotics.
  • Fermented rice: Traditional and healthy.
  • Pickles: Made the traditional way.

Vegetables and whole grains contain fiber in large quantities.

Avoid taking too much processed food, too much sugar and artificial food. These harm your gut bacteria.

7.Get Smart about Supplements( But Food First)

Preferably whole foods will be used but a little supplementation would be necessary to fill gaps.

Consider these:

  • Vitamin D: Most of the Sri Lankans have shockingly low levels, although we have sunshine.
  • Vitamin C: Assists in the immune system.
  • Zinc: Helps the immune system work properly.

Remarkable: Do not begin taking the supplements without a doctor. More does not necessarily mean better and some can react with medications.

Small Changes, Big Results

It does not mean that you have to overhaul everything at once. Choose one or 2 habits and begin. When they are ordinary, add another.

It is consistency, not perfection, that strengthens your immune system. Miss a day? No problem. It is just necessary to get on track tomorrow.

7 Simple Daily Habits

The Bottom Line

Your immune system is the body’s defense. Provide it with the care it requires in terms of movement, sleep, nutritious food, coping with stress, hydration, intestinal well-being, and intelligent supplementation as necessary.

These habits work together. For sleeping better, exercising helps. Better sleep reduces stress. Due to the reduced stress, gut health is enhanced. Everything connects.

Make a change every day, and with one thing. Your body will thank you.

Note: These practices are healthy for your immune system. Nor do they substitute medical treatment when you are ill. In case of any health problem, you should always consult a medical practitioner.

Stay healthy, stay strong, and take care of yourself. The habits that you develop today will be welcomed by your future self.
