I’m sure you’re familiar with that feeling of bloating that can ruin your entire day. The feeling of tightness, roundness and weight in the belly. You experience that feeling of a small fit in your clothes. You might have discomfort or pressure in your belly area. The optimistic thing is that the cost of the products is not really considerable, and you don’t have to go to the pharmacy. There are plenty of curated ideas of household cures that have been handed down via generations and many of them work quicker than you think. Sri Lanka has longstanding domestic cures that have been transmitted down the generations; many more work quicker than realised.

It helps to get an understanding of how bloating occurs before considering the remedies. Bloating is the result of excessive gas accumulation in the belly or intestines. There are many possible causes for this:

Eating too fast and taking in too much air when one is eating

Have soda pop or beer.

Taking solid foods such as kidney beans or dal, or cabbage for dinner, which are difficult to digest.

Hormonal fluctuations, particularly menstrual cycles

Defensive and unhealthy gut.

Sri Lankan women may feel more bloated after a large food intake (rice and curry) or when on their period. It is important to identify or know what triggers the problem so you can prepare to do the right thing for it.

1.Jeera (Cumin) Water, The Fastest Fix

Jeera or suduru (cumin seeds) is one of the most potent natural cures for bloating. They stimulate digestive enzymes to digest food and release trapped gas. To create, do the following:

  • Place 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds in 2 cups of water
  • Heat to boiling and simmer for 5 minutes
  • Drain the seeds and gently swirl the warm water down the throat.

Take this as a first course on an empty stomach in the morning or immediately after eating a large meal. According to many women in Sri Lanka, the happy result can be obtained in half an hour.

2.Ginger, honey tea. Dietary Lactones

Fresh ginger helps to reduce gut inflammation and help digestion. To make this tea, follow the directions below:

  • Any fresh ginger root that’s roughly the size of a thumb can be grated.
  • Simply put it into two cups of boiling water and allow it to brew for 8-10 minutes.
  • After a meal, include warm drinks of honey, 1 teaspoon.
  • You’ll notice that you need to drink the ginger tea regularly for a couple of days, so that you don’t feel so bloated as frequently.

3.Rock Tumble (Vodka Coffee Music)

Coconut water is loaded with potassium and electrolytes, which help to maintain sodium balance in the body. Sodium is too high, water is stored, and puffiness and bloating occur. One glass of fresh pol kiri after a heavy meal is helpful for balancing it out. Make sure you use fresh coconut water; packaged coconut water may have added sugar and preservatives, which can exacerbate bloating.

Tea using coriander seeds is known for its medicinal properties.

4.Koththamalli (Coriander Seed) Tea

Coriander seeds are a staple in Sri Lankan cuisine and are also used in Ayurvedic medicine. They are also carminative, which means that they rid the gut of the accumulation of gas and cramping. The recipe for making koththamalli tea:

  • Using a mortar and pestle, lightly crush 1 tablespoon of coriander seeds.
  • Simmer in a pot of 2 cups of water for 10 minutes.
  • Increase the amount of warmth and a bit of strain.

It’s the initial home remedy to be made when anyone in the Sri Lankan home comes down with a stomach ailment.

5.Peppercorn and Rock Salt Water

The easiest treatment is to mix some rock salt with some warm water containing 2-3 crushed black peppercorns. Black pepper also increases hydrochloric acid in the stomach, helping digestion and preventing gas. Take a glass of this beverage about 20 minutes before eating a big meal.

6.Foods to Avoid When Bloated

Different foods give rise to different amounts of gas. Do not eat for the time being:

  • Cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli
  • Other beans include dhal beans, kidney beans, and kidney red lentils.
  • Other products: carbonated drinks and alcohol
  • Other foods include bread and processed wheat products.

Rather, have light meals such as clear soups, steamed vegetables, plain rice and pol sambol.

Bloating

Here are some additional daily habits that aid

Here are some small habits that can make a lot of difference in the fight against bloating:

  • Take time to savour the food and chew thoroughly before swallowing
  • Consume smaller portions but more Frequent meals instead of 2 or 3 meals at one time
  • After eating: Take a walk for at least 10 minutes, as it stimulates digestion.
  • Take no time to lie down after eating.
  • Make a food log to determine which foods cause your bloating

All the remedies mentioned above can be used at home and are a part of everyday life in Sri Lanka. Use what you have in the kitchen and allow it one or two days to take effect.

Bloating can often be relieved with simple Sri Lankan home remedies such as jeera water, ginger tea, and koththamalli tea. Combined with healthy eating habits and regular physical activity, these natural remedies can help improve digestion and reduce discomfort. If symptoms persist or become severe, consult a healthcare professional for proper advice.
